What does choosing yourself really mean, and why is it one of the most important choices you can make?
Choosing yourself is one of the most difficult things you will do for yourself. It is often dismissed as something fun and enjoyable—something you don’t feel when you start choosing for yourself.
Choosing yourself means staying true to what you feel and your own desires. You have to fight for what you want in your life; this is often not the same as what the people around you want. At those moments, you have to choose you.
I have often felt that people thought what I did was strange, that I felt different from others. I no longer participated in the race of life—an overcrowded agenda filled with many appointments and people. I actually felt that this was not good for me at all, and that I wanted to be alone—to choose myself and heal on a deeper level so that I could live the life that I feel is the intention for me.
To live that life, I had to heal from abuse on a deep level, knowing that was the only way for me. It’s hard when you heal from something like that and you feel the projections, judgment, disapproval, and rejection from others. This has nothing to do with you; it is a projection of their own fear of actually doing this for themselves.
Choosing yourself, doing what feels good for you, staying true to this, and healing yourself in the meantime requires courage and decisiveness. Not everyone will choose this.
You are not everyone.
And that is your power. Own it, claim it, and receive it. It’s yours; it’s been taken away from you, but now it’s time to get it back so you can rise from the inside.
And that’s what choosing yourself is all about.
Lots of Love,
Kelly
